Uddevalla falls in the heart of Bohuslän. It’s situated on the Swedish West Coast, north of Gothenburg and south of Oslo. It’s one of the biggest cities in Västra Götaland and has an expanded industry.

The impressive Uddevalla Bridge and international harbours
The location has excellent communications via the European Highway E6 with the impressive great Uddevalla Bridge. It also has both good national as international railway connections and a large and busy commercial harbor – including two international ones. Uddevalla also has one airport close by.

History of Uddevalla City
Uddevalla was founded in a crossroads between Sweden and Norway during the middle Ages in the changing border between Sweden and Norway. It was first founded as Norwegian trade Centre and was granted their right to become an independent town in 1498. Fishing was a big element for the growth and export. The demand for herring became enormous and because of that the export grew.

Industries in Uddevalla
Industrialization in the 19th century formed the basis of the cities diversified economy today. Various enterprises like the Uddevalla Safety Match Factory, Tiger of Sweden and the renowned Uddevalla shipyard, have contributed to Uddevalla´s expansion over the years.

Inhabitants and municipality
The community has developed into a modern regional hub today counting to be over 53 000 inhabitants during the year of 2014. Now Uddevalla is one of the largest municipalities in Region Västra Götaland and has expanding trade and services industries.

The heart of Bohuslän
Uddevalla is situated beautifully in the inner part of a fjord, and has a 270 kilometers long shore line. Within these hundreds of kilometers there are many opportunities for shopping and outdoor recreation like hiking, cycling, bathing, water sports and fishing of course.

Take a walk along the sea side from the 10.000 years old shellbanks through the city center to the oldest seaside resort in Europe – Gustafsberg, where Swedish kings used to visit.
