EMAS - Environmental Work in Uddevalla
Pilot Study in Sustainable Development
To increase the understanding and the awareness of how we, as humans affect the environment in our daily life, it´s important that the understanding is built on “from below". For that to be created we need to focus at the citizen´s wants, wishes and needs. Therefore the municipality shall not tell its´ inhabitants what can be done for a better environment. It´s the inhabitants that should tell the municipality what they want to do. The main purpose of the project is to initiate a dialogue about environmental issues between the municipality and its inhabitants. It can be “simple" things like picking up litter from the local football ground, or recycling garbage, to more advanced issues. The close by company might want to know how to adapt environmental thinking into the organisation etc. The municipality can support the process with its expertise in various areas, including certain limited financial support, but:
It´s the citizen´s responsibility for actions to be taken and get things done in the process.
Another goal is to find a model for following up if improvements have been made in ways to approach- and attitude against environmental issues among the citizens.
In other words: Democracy and environment at grass-roots level.
