The municipality of Uddevalla was registered by EMAS in December 2004. We are the first municipality in Sweden to do so.
We have worked for many years with environmental issues in Uddevalla. An example of our work with environmental issues is our publication "Biological diversity - a nature guide". It has been produced yearly since 2003 in a process with 12 different cultural and educational associations. Yet another example is our policy that all newly acquired cars in the municipality operations are driven by ethanol. The ethanol we use is produced from Swedish trees. In October 2005 we also got our first biogas pump with methane produced locally from recycled biodegradable products. This enables the use of biogas vehicles as well.
Our work continues now with education classes for our 5 000 employees and continual, continued development of contacts with local organisations, businesses and our citizens.
Annual internal and external audits are all done according to the EMAS standard.
Information about the environmental work done in Uddevalla is published annually in our Environmental declaration. It is available both in print as well as on our website.
